Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Counselor to join our team in providing essential mental health care for incarcerated individuals. In this role, you will assess, evaluate, and coordinate mental health services, formulating individualized release plans to ensure a smooth continuum of care.
Key Responsibilities:
Crisis Intervention: Assess psychiatric emergencies and provide timely crisis intervention to emotionally distressed and mentally ill inmates.
Suicide Prevention: Conduct thorough evaluations of inmates to identify risks and implement effective suicide intervention and prevention strategies.
Care Coordination: Collaborate with facility and medical staff to address the unique needs of inmates and ensure comprehensive care.
Substance Abuse Counseling: Offer Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and substance abuse counseling to support inmates in their recovery journey.
Individualized Treatment Plans: Develop tailored treatment plans for psychiatric inmates requiring intensive behavioral management and facilitate referrals for medication management services.
Community Linkages: Promote connections with community mental health agencies, support services, and families, ensuring continuity of care and effective discharge planning.
Needs Assessment: Complete assessments of inmate needs and design individualized release plans to connect them with appropriate community services post-incarceration.
Safety and Security: Maintain the safety and security of staff and inmates when making clinical decisions regarding care.
On-Call Duties: Participate in on-call responsibilities to provide off-hours mental health coverage as needed.
Training: Provide mental health training for jail staff to enhance understanding and response to mental health issues.
Additional Duties: Complete other job-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
A Master's degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required licensure as a Social Worker, Marriage/Family Therapist, Mental Health Counselor, or Licensed Professional Counselor.
